Hi, I had a similar issue.
My kinect uses the diy power trick (which is not causing any problem). I have a n56vz Asus laptop working with the default “Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible -1.0(Microsoft)” driver which comes with win10. The thing was that the xHCI option was disabled in the BIOS.
So may be there is still a chance if you are worried about having an incompatible usb hardware!
