I d advise to increase a bit the difference of grey shading for regions, remember there are people out there with cheap TN displays (not me of course).

subtle improvement for a start…
nested region could have a 1px white border additionally. that would increase the contrast. did a short test with the css which was good so far.
you never go full color! :)
