(Apart from that, it is exactly the same as the one posted 2012-02-xx for beta27. People willing to try this out will know which file to replace with this one.)

I saw that now on VVVV Beta27 the plugin works like a charm for me (did you change something?), but on the latest Alpha27.1 version (07/02), I get the following error:

Sounds like you opened the patch by mistake using beta27 instead of alpha27.1. Is that possible?
No, if I open your testpatch with your dll in beta27 everything works fine and also in my patch where I had before the strange deadlock after the third videofile change.
However in Alpha 27.1 i get with your testpatch and with my patch the error above… and I don’t get any red node. But, if I put the debug mode on, the VLC node becomes light blue. I don’t know what it means.
I was too happy… the deadlock is still there in beta27 and VLC sometimes makes VVVV crash after some changes… :(
Here’s another try, everything included apart from the LibVLC dlls. (I added IDisposable so it will stop playing when the node gets deleted)
I tried this version with the lastest alpha27.1, on another laptop that’s running XP pro. Everything works like a charm over here.
Also I haven’t been able to reproduce any deadlock situations (I tried on my main laptop with bigger video files, and switching fast, and like one of you told me, I didn’t use the nextfilename pin). To me it feels as the most stable (maybe not the fastest) version so far, so I’m surprised that you don’t get it to work properly.
If it says ‘Entering mutex failed’, this means it took too long to enter the mutex. I did this in order to avoid deadlocks. I get this message a few times when I use multiple very big textures (like 2 video’s set to decode to 2000x1500 resolution). After a few seconds the messages would disappear, and the file started playing, but of course in that case the framerate sucks on this laptop.
Is there anyone where it does work?
Anyway, try this version and report back please…

Could you save the tty renderer’s logs using a writer node and post them here?
And maybe post the patch you are using, and tell me what type and size of video files you were using?

i am just testing if i am able to play such sizes, but i have problem even to play smaller sizes,like 1024*768

I have had no success creating files larger than 2000px wide
sorry i forgot to separate the sizes
wmv is limited to 2000pix width as i know
bigger sizes are h264

Now, since plugins are written using managed code, it seems strange that these errors would be caused by the plugin code itself. Of course, LibVLC is written in c++, so there’s a lot that can go wrong. If any of the devs has some hints in order to find the cause, I’d be vary happy :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------well these kind of errors typically happen if code writes to an adress where it shouldn’t write to. my understanding is that as long as the address is valid for the process the code runs in, the operating system won’t trigger an access violation, so it can be very hard to track these issues down, as the write to the wrong address happened at some point before you see some other part of the application to fail.
i would first try to get this error reproducible and then comment out code till the access violation goes away. it might also help if you could publish your code somewhere (best would be our addonpack, so it gets build by build server) so other people can help you out in such scenarios.
Might have fixed a few problems in this version, but there will probably be some problems left.

I can see a line ‘new spreadMax = 0’ in the logfile, which probably means you input a NIL string spread into the filename pin. One might argue that this should be supported, but can you add an AvoidNIL (String) node between your ‘filename selector’ and Vlc, such that there is always at least 1 slice (with an empty filename) going into the Vlc node, and report back?
I would like to focus on problems when using the plugin in a ‘normal’ way first :)

Thank you ft for the updated version!!! It seems that now it is a lot more stable and til now I didn’t get any deadlock. :) But I still get errors which I don’t know if it is the latest VVVV Alpha27.1 version, VLC or maybe something that I did wrong… After I press the OK and hide button, it seems that no further errors come.

@cybear, @devvvvs: Only the devvvvs know what happens on that line of code, so maybe they have a hint on what might have gone wrong?
Now, with the new beta27.1 version and the updated vlc player node seems that everything works fine. Thank you ft! Thanks devvvvs. Hope the same for others.
using last b27.1 and vlc2.0 i’ve issues when loading the example patch
i need to hide/show or init the renderers node to get it working properly
otherwise i’ve a blank quads / sounds seems ok
and when i alt+right click the vlc node i also need to init renderers
