Video card won't run shaders?

Hi, infant noobie here, had 4v in my sandbox for awhile, having fun, but also pretty overwhelmed, math and geometry not much in my toolkit.

Anyway, none of the shaders work for me, even the tutorials, I get just a black renderer.
After some reading, I’ve discovered it may be my video card.

I have a pretty old XP system with a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440

Does anyone know if this is the problem, or possible solutions?

I could sniff around, see if I could find an affordable replacement.

hey tom, this may help.
I tried running that sticky test patch
here’s what I got

Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440

Fixed Function
Vertex Shader 1.0
Vertex Shader 1.1
Vertex Shader 2.0
Vertex Shader 2.a
Vertex Shader 3.0

does this make it any clearer?

I don’t even know what a vertex shader is.
guess this mean NO pixel shaders work!

OK, so how do I know if a possible replacement graphics card will run pixel shaders? What specs do I look for?
