Freezing when returning from background

Hi,
I’m having an annoying issue where v is freezing when returning from being in the background for a few seconds. It’s only seeming to happen with patches where I’m streaming clips. Patches without video streaming seem to be okay.

Freezing when returning from Chrome, Spotify, Cinema 4D…

If anyone has any ideas why this might be happening, I’d be glad to hear them!

strange after I read your thread the same thing happened to me in a patch with externals modules. I changenged my v4 instance from a clean one to a instance with all my external modules for development. coming back from firefox or anything else crashes vvvv. Can you try to install a fresh instance and check if you are having the same problem? It works again if I use a clean version.

I’ve done a clean install, removed all and re-downloaded and installed… no luck. :(

It’s not the biggest of problems - it works fine if I keep it on top of everything. Just means I have to dedicate all my time to V instead of flipping through vimeo every 20 minutes ;-)

Never experienced such thing atleast in my PC. Tested with video streaming file, no freezing.

I have the same issue. It happens quite often, it happens whether Aero in windows7 is activated or not.

Nevertheless in my case i just switch back to a different program, then switch back to vvvv via alt+tab, voilà - not frozen anymore. very odd :?

Yes! that works!
Althoguh who knows why it happens, but at least I dont have to restart V every time now.
Also, noticed that if I press ‘pause’ then ‘play’ on my keyboard if im listening to music, is un-freezes too…

Hey Oddbass,

i think i found atleast One possible reason and solution for this.

You mentioned that it works again if you press “pause” and “play” on your keyboard it unfreezes.

Ive had very many random crashes while working with FFT Input and couldnt figure ou why vvvv kept on freezing.

Ive checked my soundcard Driver and it appears to have a feature which disable’s inactive soundcard ports, functions or the complete soundcard in order to save energy. Everytime this happend vvvv crashed.

I have disabled this “feature” and now everything is running quite stable :)

Im using a current Dell XPS15 and the setting is somewhere in the “dell sound manager” software.
