Error when opening root

Hi all,

I’ve recently wiped and reinstalled my laptop and I’ve been getting errors now that I’ve a fresh Vvvv and a fresh install.

Every time I ‘ctrl+tab’ to get to the root, I keep getting Microsoft .NET Framework error pop up:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object"

This is the 2nd time I’ve reinstalled lately and the 2nd time I’ve got this error. Never had any problems on this machine previously though.

If I hit ‘continue’ the error box closes, but root doesn’t open. I do ‘ctrl+tab’ again, only to get the same error message.
There is another button ‘details’.
I hit that and get the below message:-

which exact vvvv version are you using?
did you unzip vvvv with 7-zip?

using the windows zip function is not recommended since it sets some weird file access rights. also, you seem to place vvvv into the “program files” folder, this is not recommended since it also involves special file access rights.

Thanks for your reply Tonfilm.

I am using the most recent version of VVVV - 50beta38.1 - 32bit version.

I didn’t extract with 7zip; I used WinRar and then put in Program Flies. Both of which are the procedures I have followed previously.

I’ll retry with 7zip and a different folder and see if that sort’s it out.

I’ll report back.

On another note, for someone who is still semi beginner, is there any real advantage to moving to the 64bit version?
Seems there are some bits missing but u wonder how fundamental they are to someone of my low skill level?

I use vvvv for a living and don’t really know anyone in the industry using the 32 bit version.

The most “prominent” missing nodes may be Freeframe plugins and the Ueye cam, which you’d use VL.OpenCV for these days … haven’t come across 32 bit in years since Box2D got updated.

I remember using 32bit when I was doing my degree, I think it was for Kinect compatibility or something at the time… I’ve just installed 64 bit now though :)

Unfortunately, I am still getting the same error message when I try to open root in 64bit version.

I have reinstalled my laptop numerous times over the years and have never had an issue when reinstalling VVVV before :-$

do you get the same error if you open root via the shortcut ALT+R (instead of ctrl+tab)?
