DV Video Camera Framerate Problem

I am a new user of VVVV and I am trying to design an application that captures and modifies realtime video input.

I am using a Canon ZR20 DV camera connected by firewire to a PC running Windows XP. The system specs are:
Intel Core2 CPU 6600 @ 2.4 GHz. with 2 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT Graphics Card

At this point I am just trying to watch video in real-time from the camera, but I am getting framerates below 1fps. Usually the picture on screen updates every 5 - 10 seconds. Since this is so slow I think I must be doing something wrong and hope that someone can suggest some ways to fix it.

I am using the VideoIn(Tutorial) patch that is available on the VVVV site to test the camera: http://vvvv.org/tiki-index.php?page=User+Tutorials#VideoIn_Tutorial_v4p

just do a
video in
-> video texture -> quad ex9 _> renderer ex9

video tuorial is good for going inside of certains details
