How to diagram a audio / video / light / laser show on a timeline?

I know there are several ways of solve this problem, I read about LTC SMPTE Timecode Midi, Ableton Link.

I would like to have a timeline in any program to be able to edit cues over a audio track, and envelopes, and use that cue data to
Play mp4 video files
Do Artnet stuff
Send midi notes to other programs like Pangolin QuickShow, GrandMa2 ( this second one can do artnet in )

I used the old Timeliner node a few years ago, and it was “ok”
Second time I did something similar was using SMPTE from a audio file + grandma2 , but still im not 100% happy with this method…
Next stop is using Ableton, But before I jump into a software that I really never used, I would like to hear more options /experience from the forum

I have done somthing similer with Ableton Live and for real time stuff it works quite well. get the suite version, then you can make Max4Live devices that send OSC, giving you 32bit float precision in your automations. at least that is what i did. and it is kind of cool to have your video player device and your lights device in Live that triggers and controls stuff in vvvv.

Hey @sunep I will give it a try, I am a little bit worried about the price… can I do something with the Ableton Intro ?
I know that Ableton its an amazing tool, but I’m not into Audio at all :(

No, in order to use M4L you need the suite version. otherwise you are limited to midis 7bit resolution. you can just download a trial version that is good for 30 days so you can test it out: https://www.ableton.com/en/trial/

and make sure to check out all the other timeline options: https://vvvv.org/documentation/animation

if you want to be in DAW-land and use OSC, you can use https://www.reaper.fm/

Hey @joreg I will check out all the software listed there, not sure why I did not find that page before, thanks!
sunep I did use reaper to create the audio for ma2, but I was not aware that I can do OSC, I think I will go this way!
thanks!

i preferred duration amongst the options listed on 4v doc page
cause it’s the only one which allows putting audio track on the timeline
and working with keyframes based on that track directly

if you’re not bound to specific soundtrack, ossia score looks like reasonable choice
